Felt Flowers: Barrettes / Brooches / Magnets

Barrette, Brooch & Magnet

Created with some die-cut flowers and leaves, beads, decorative embroidery stitches & findings.

I had bought the craft supplies a while back (years in fact!).  Whilst Spring cleaning (or in my case creating more of a mess) I "rediscovered" them.

Gather craft supplies

Small flowers, felt ball, felt leaves (a discontinued product) were purchased from Blooming Felt
The other items were purchased on impulse from shops or other online stores.

Cut backing from template, arrange and stitch leaves

A template was made using a barrette as a guide.  Two pieces were cut from felt.  With one, arrange and attach the leaf shapes.  (I played around for a while until I decided how I liked the shapes to be arranged)  I used a rather large running stitch.  It was primarily used to secure the pieces onto the backing felt, at the same time giving a bit of detail.
*** Optional!  Attach a felt ball with a few stitches.  This gets covered by the flowers, but helps give a bit of dimension.

Embellish felt flowers

Felt flowers - I chose to embellish these with some beads and embroidery stitches I was taught at school.  I thought it would add some colour & texture.
After decorating half a dozen flowers, I was annoyed that my bullion stitches wasn't sitting right - they were curling up like mini caterpillars.  I looked online for some help and found I had skip steps! (I am still racking my brains as to how... Did I forget or was I never taught it correctly in the first place? I don't know!)
Too late for the barrette and brooch, I had already assembled them!

Arrange & attach to leaves

I arranged three embellished flowers around the felt ball.  Stitched them in place when I was happy.

Attach backs

Finding was glued, stitched or both to the second piece of backing.  This was then stitched to cover the messy back of the first. (I should've spent more time on the stitch-work on backs! Oh well!)

Panda Boom!

A trio of pandas were made... Panda triplets?!

The morning after - on my window ledge
Pattern & Tutorial by Lynn Roberts and can be found here.

I finally completed a small family of pandas on Thursday (19/Dec/2013), with only a few days to spare for Christmas.  I started them in early November! (Things happening around the house just seem to get in the way!)

Monkey Business

Monkey Purse and Heart Keyring from a Paper-and-String sew your own craft kit.

Sew-Your-Own craft kits by Paper-and-String can be found from the Paper-and-String website.  Contents include: Felt, Stuffing, Buttons, Ribbons, Patterns & Instructions .  (You will need your own Needle/s, Threads, Scissors, Pens & Pencils!)

Completed Thursday (26/Sept/2013).  Kit had been calling out to me since I received it in the post - "Make me, make me!" Unfortunately work on house had priority.  When hubby found someone else to help with floors & porch, I snuck off to do my own thing.

I managed to squeeze this cheeky fellow from the felt kit too!

Family Picture!

Not sure if others found the same with these kits, but I had quite a few buttons & stuffing left over - what should I save those up for?

My First Panda Toy (made from scratch!)

I couldn't resist making one after seeing "Her" - Anna Panda on Lynn Roberts' blog.

Pattern & Tutorial by Lynn Roberts and can be found here.

My first Panda toy was completed on Sunday (28/Aug/2013).  Adjustments made to body. I used an old unused towel to substitute white felt. Maybe I will be making others - create my own Panda family!
