Shrove Tuesday!

Yay! Pancake Day... mmm the Chocolate & Blueberry recipe on HotelChocolat's blog looks great! http://talesfromtreetobar.com/

A simple Lemon & Sugar one is just as good ^_^

Taking photos!

Arghhhh! Never seem to get good natural light! Why do pictures I take on my phone look fine on the phone, but greyish on my computer screen? Why... why... why... why... why?

January Crafting... Part 1

My first crafting kit of the year and treat to myself, Crafty Nana's Teatime Cakes Pin Cushion Kit.  I bought this from Boots during the sales for £8 (Half Price - whoop whoop!).

Pre-cut felt!  Yeah, no cutting required!  (err... actually, I did cut a few pieces!  My attempt to improve the Layered Cake & Victoria Sponge!)  I was a bit 50/50 with this kit.  I wasn't sure of the quality of the felt (was cringing at the possibility of getting synthetic felt - personal!)

I was pleasantly surprised!  Clear instructions booklet with pictures, for those who like the step-by-step.  I flicked through it and made adjustments here and there.  c=('-'C)  The felt was nice to handle and the colours were pleasing too (to my eyes anyway).   The imagery did not allude this! Plenty of stuffing, quite firm pin cushions with excess.  The floss complemented the felt well.  I still have plenty left over, even after using some in my next kit!

January Crafting... Part 2

The second kit I treated myself to; by Paper-and-String a sew your own Felt Cupcakes kit.  I found this on a trip to John Lewis - London at £15.00.

I really love the package design for this kit.  A simple, sturdy, reusable plastic box. Colourful informative stickers on the top and bottom.

A basic sewing kit of scissors, needle, pins & threads are required when you come to make up your felt goods.  You may also want a pair of paper scissors, fabric pen / chalk handy.  This is a kit which requires you to cut out your own pieces.  I managed to make a total of 8 cupcakes from the supplied materials! OK... so I used my own ribbon to unify the tops of the cupcakes - I had intended to make some sort of cupcake bunting.  (My kit had missing key-rings.  Just my luck! ¬_¬

Wool Felt mix was lovely and soft.  Nice selection of ribbons & buttons.  A good set of instructions and patterns.  Even after stuffing my cupcakes, I still have stuffing left.

Here are my fruits of labour! ^_^

Since then, I have also made a supplies purchase from the paper-and-string website.

Newbie blogger

I have finally made myself a blog... or the beginnings of one.  Just wonder how long I will be keeping this up.
